Good ol' U2

Fantastic quote from The Edge in this week's NME.
On the subject of teaming up with Green Day to record the Skids' 'The
Saints Are Coming' (yep, the reason I bought the issue) to raise funds for
the New Orleans flood victims, the NME asks: "Katrina was really the
moment when America itself finally lost any patience with President Bush,
wasn't it?"
To which the Edge replies -
"It was a big Watershed moment".

My own "Did I really say that" moment

I just showed Dawn the introduction to the book, in which I paid tribute to
her in the context of "a strained couple of years". Of course, I meant this to
reflect the amount of work/anxiety of going freelance, etc. Dawn, of course,
pointed out that it sounded like we were having relationship differences.
Fear not, for that is not the case. But I do accept her point that this makes
me look like a bit of a berk.

UPDATES FOR OCTOBER 2006 ONWARDS

New Books

No, not mine this time. But I've contributed recently to Martin Kielty's Big
Noise: The Sound Of Scotland, out through Black & White now. Obviously,
I'm not an expert on Scotland or its music, but I do sure have some regional
ties, and Martin asked me for a couple of quotes about the impact punk had
on the region. How strange that I worked as a copy editor on Square One's
The History of Scottish Rock 'n' Pop, All That Ever Mattered, nearly two
decades ago (and apologies to Brian Hogg, whose excellent work I helped
cock up with some comedy copy editing)

Going back to an old love, there's a new hip hop book out shortly entitled
How To Rap - I've seen bits of it and its an excellent, grounded piece of
research into the raw mechanics of the art form. I did some literary scrawl
for the promo/cover materials.

New Radiohead DVD

If anyone's interested, my great face for radio motto was sorely tested
recently when contributing a new DVD/docu on Radiohead's OK Computer.
Should be out in a month I am told. Can I ask that the impressionable and
young children hide behind the couch when my bits are on.
THIS IS NOT A BLOG
This is Hugh at his first ever football match.
Looks like he's going to be a Leyton Orient
supporter. I have mixed feelings about this.
Will I have to beat him up when Scunthorpe
visit?
